Goose Mess Issues Should Be Behind us!

Away With Geese deviceIf you’ve been down to the beach in the last couple of days you may have noticed two of these amber lights, one on the donut, the other on the north marina point. These are the goose deterrent devices the Community Association decided to buy at the AGM.

The devices produce a colour of light that is annoying to the Geese at night causing them to feel insecure and lose sleep, so they move on to another place to sleep.  Apparently, if the don’t spend the night near our beach, the geese won’t be around to leave their messes in the morning. The geese experience no pain, so we get the deterrence we want without ill effects for the geese.

The lights are solar powered, weather proof, and 100% guaranteed to work.  If you want more information, check out the Away With Geese website.

Heightened awareness needed

In the early hours of Saturday morning July 4th, a member of our community was awoken by someone breaking into her home. The mother of two, rushed to gather the children, and when the toddler cried, the would be thieves left without entering.

This scary incident, plus the B & E attempt described at the Community Association AGM, remind us that we need to take steps to protect ourselves as individuals and as a community. Be sure to secure the doors and accessible windows at night, lock vehicles parked outside, and take other proactive steps to make it easy for would-be thieves to be seen near your house including installing motion activated lighting and removing trees and bushes that provide cover for them.  We also need to be vigilant as a community, and report suspicious activities immediately to the RCMP. I encourage neighbours to make sure they have phone numbers for each other, so information and help requests can be easily shared.
